An entryway should be two things: functional and aesthetically pleasing. The entryway is the first thing people see when they come into your home, and will ultimately be their first impression. While they vary depending on the size of your home, that doesn't mean you can't create a space that still gets the job done! Here are some simple sketches to follow while designing your entryway along with some of my favorite tips and tricks!
Tip #1: Less is More
Not only will this tip come in handy to reduce clutter around your home, but it's also great for when you're working in areas with limited space.
Tip #2: Create a "Drop Zone" Area
Whether you have the space for a mud room or not, your entryway should have some sort of drop zone area that allows your guests to set down their coats, take off their shoes, etc while entering your home.
Tip #3: STORAGE
Every entryway should have some space to store items, short or long-term. Working with a limited space? Throw some coat hooks on the wall and add some baskets under your entry table to store items! Not only are they great for
functionality, but they add the perfect
amount of style while conserving space.
Tip #4: Styling
No matter how big or small your space may be, it's essential to add some sort of artwork, decor, or even a throw pillow or blanket if you have seating! If you're crunched for space, use a big mirror on the wall or a large piece of artwork to draw the eye upward and make the space feel larger. We want to make this space functional, but that doesn't mean we can't still make it beautiful!
Tip #5: Lighting
Entryway lighting separate from your ceiling lights is a must because it allows you to brighten the space, while also providing a "nonverbal signal" that lets people know when you're home or not! Whether you opt for a chandelier, table lamp, or a floor lamp, there's no wrong answer! Just don't be afraid of scale - an oversized lamp gives such an elevated feel!
No matter your personal style or budget, the possibilities are endless! Here's some inspo of a few gorgeous and functional entryways that we've been loving!
Happy Styling!
